Minnesota State and AcademyOne Partner and Launch Credit for Prior Learning Platform

MyCPL

King Of Prussia, PA - AcademyOne today introduced MyCPL, a new automated platform the Minnesota State system of 26 community and technical colleges and seven state universities is implementing for evaluating and awarding credit for prior learning. Powered by AcademyOne’s AssessED™ software, MyCPL streamlines the process of determining how knowledge gained from outside of the traditional classroom equates to academic credit. With working adults making up a substantial portion of Minnesota State’s 300,000 enrollment, assessing skills and knowledge gained from workplace or community training and service both broadens and accelerates learner pathways to completing a credential. A recent landscape study conducted by the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) and the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) found that awarding credit through prior learning assessment boosted adult student completion rates by up to 49% versus 27% for students without PLA credit.

MyCPL takes advantage of AssessED™ and incorporates defined workflows to connect learners with program advisors, guides them through the petition for credit process, and gives them the ability to track their progress during the evaluation stage with a messaging dashboard. Not only a benefit for students, the platform also eases the manual work and communication burdens of advisors and faculty evaluators. The framework of the application is intuitive and provides the system’s colleges and universities with common learning outcomes and scoring criteria to support evaluation and award consistency, transparency, and equity. It also generates reports from aggregate data regarding CPL outcomes for Minnesota State students and campuses.

“The recognition of experiential credit has become an increasingly important factor in student success strategies for institutions,” said Mike McIntyre, President of AcademyOne, Inc. “Our AssessEDTM software streamlines the credit for prior learning assessment process for campuses throughout Minnesota State. This was a major goal for Minnesota State, which is the third-largest system of two-year colleges and four-year universities in the United States, and is something we find common amongst our statewide clients.”

AcademyOne delivers state and systemwide cloud-based solutions that reduce the academic and economic impact associated with prior learning assessment and transfer credit promoting equity in access and student success.
