The Start
Before leaving SunGard Higher Education in 2004, David K. Moldoff attempted to pursue an internal project code-named "Skedu" which was targeted to address the opportunities he predicted would unfold addressing the linkages between institutions (a/k/a the education pipeline) and the need for shared tools and infrastructure that could help streamline student and faculty mobility. The network effort of building a shared, collaborative, consumer oriented platform supporting institutional processes outside of the traditional enrollment path did not interest SunGard internally enough to fund the project. The unsuccessful initiative did not stop David. He departed and formed AcademyOne in 2005 with SunGard's approval. For thirty years, David has pursued evolving student information systems as technology rapidly changed the landscape of education. His exposure to the diversity of institutions and the challenges serving 21st century learners, created an awareness of the need to address the bridges between institutions and their offerings, as mobility, enrollment patterns and consumer expectations emerged.

The Origin of the Name AcademyOne
The term 'Academy' is often used to describe education as a whole. Adding the 'One' to the term 'Academy' implies a shared and managed enterprise designed to support the education pipeline connecting, collaborating, sharing and facilitating pathways to knowledge and credentials.

The Idea
Rarely does an idea stimulate such passions, innovativeness and meaning. Speaking and listening to students, faculty, advisors, deans, provosts, parents, friends, presidents, association executives, public policy advocates, business associates, investors, bankers or strangers on the street, one can clearly see the need to help address the complexity of student and faculty mobility across higher education.

A Fused Single Focus
Our unique focus of addressing mobility across institutional structures reveals fused challenges and opportunities. AcademyOne is 100% focused on the issues stemming from mobility. No other company we know of has that distinction.
AcademyOne has attracted attention across a spectrum of thought leaders. It is testimony to the vision and people who are associated with the company. From the Board of Directors, Advisory Council to all the employees, this company is unique in how we are pioneering the development and delivery of online academic workspaces where knowledge grows through shared content, community and commerce alleviating the pain of disparate and isolated systems.

The Principals of Service
Founded in response to the frustrating capacity issues and duplication serving mobile students and their transitions, the company has been building tools, content and services bridging institutional structures and policies through a service oriented architecture (SOA). In addition, the company has been passionate and faithful in employing industry specifications and standards where available to overcome proprietary definitions and minimize the complexity of integration. The principal of SOA enables applications to be loosely coupled, agile and flexible. They also can fit into the decentralized infrastructure securely.

Education Explores and Reveals Assumptions and the Unknown
AcademyOne is helping educational stakeholders re-think assumptions that complicate how they respond to mobility and emerging enrollment patterns. By removing the dependencies on proprietary systems, institutions can free themselves from duplication and blind spots caused by standalone systems. They can react to expectations, the need to access academic credentials in real-time, improved student preparation, faster evaluation and reducing student churn far better when coordinated and aligned with partner institutions. We believe sharing and working together, institutions can better serve their stakeholders while saving time, costs and resources in a more efficient manner.
